How to verify H & T Charity Foundation
Serious donors in the United States do not take a website’s word for it. They check the IRS. That is exactly what we want you to do.
1. Use the EIN, not just the name
Our legal name is H & T Charity Foundation. Our Employer Identification Number is 87-3011744. Names can collide. EINs do not. Search that nine-digit number on the IRS Tax Exempt Organization Search tool.
2. Look for Pub. 78 and deductibility
Pub. 78 data lists organizations eligible to receive tax-deductible charitable contributions. You should see that contributions to this organization are deductible, consistent with public-charity status under section 501(c)(3).
3. Read the determination letter
The IRS issued a determination letter dated November 30, 2021. That letter is the Foundation’s “yes” from Tax Exempt and Government Entities. Public extracts show a January 2022 ruling date, which is normal publication lag.
4. Confirm we are a public charity
We are not a private foundation. Classification under IRC 170(b)(1)(A)(vi) means we are built to receive substantial public support. That is the same family of public charities used by many community organizations across the country.
5. Check the annual filing
Small organizations with gross receipts of $50,000 or less file Form 990-N. Our 2023 e-Postcard reported that we were not terminated and that receipts were under the threshold. Missing three years of filings can cost an exemption. Filing is how we stay in the game.
